Rotorua Racing Club's Holiday Raceday Delivers Success For The Club
Rotorua Racing Club's annual Holiday Raceday, held on December 28th 2024, was one for the ages, with great turnout from locals and visitors alike. The day also saw impressive growth across multiple key metrics – something that was very pleasing to see.
The event, which is a staple of the local racing calendar and a popular summer occasion for all, attracted approximately 3,000 people to the course, and according to General Manager Damien Radesic, it was "the best Holiday Raceday I've seen in many years."
The day's strong performance was not just reflected in the crowds, but also in the financial results. Total turnover for the event increased by an impressive 24%, a significant boost that highlighted the event's popularity.
This increase in betting activity demonstrates a growing enthusiasm for our sport and a stronger connection with the event, our athletes and the races themselves from the attendees.
The day saw a card of 8-races go off without a hitch and we congratulate all of the days’ runners and their connections.

The atmosphere on the day was equally remarkable with the sun shining throughout the day. This added to the festive vibe, with the general admission area well attended by families and racing enthusiasts, all enjoying the spectacle, and soaking up the lively atmosphere.
In addition to the racing action, the day featured a variety of kids’ entertainment, ensuring that families had a fun and memorable experience. From bouncy castles to face painting, games and competitions, young attendees were entertained throughout the day, making it a perfect event for people of all ages.
The days’ hospitality package sold out and patrons enjoyed delicious food and beverages while watching the races in style, with both the private areas and the public spaces full of energy.
For the Club, the increased turnout and demand for services highlight the growing appeal of the Holiday Raceday as a major event in Rotorua’s summer calendar.
The packed lawns, coupled with the buzzing atmosphere, reinforced the event’s reputation as a must-attend occasion for both locals and tourists alike.
Damien remarked, "We are absolutely thrilled with how the day went. It's clear that the community and visitors really embrace this event, and we're already looking forward to making next year even better."
The event's success also bodes well for the future of the Rotorua Racing Club and its continued ability to draw crowds, foster a festive atmosphere, and contribute to the growth of New Zealand racing.
