With the Listed Campbell Infrastructure Rotorua Cup one of the feature races of May’s Rotorua Cup Raceday, we took ride down memory lane to check up on some of the previous winners.
Bella Waters
After winning the most recent edition of the Listed feature, she’s since won the Group 2 Tauranga Stakes late last year and trainer, Moira Murdoch has spoken highly of her potential stating she has Group 1 aspirations for the mare. She’s still racing and we look forward to seeing her oncourse again – hopefully here at Rotorua!
Poser
Poser took out the race in 2023 and went on to win her next start too. She followed that up with a series of placings including in the popular Taumaranui Gold Cup. She won or placed in 11 of her 24 starts – a good innings!
Sinarahma
After winning the Listed Rotorua Cup in 2022 Sinarahma then ran second in the Group 3 Eagle Technology Stakes followed by a win the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes (watch below), adding to her prior Group 1 placing in the Thorndon Mile. She’s since gone on broodmare duties and has had a Tarzino filly in 2023 and a Satono Aladdin colt in 2024 and is in foal this season to Profondo.
The Good Fight
After winning the Rotorua Cup, The Good Fight crossed the Tasman winning the VRC Flemington Cup in July 2021. A slew of placings followed in Australia on the flat before he turned his hand to jumps racing in Australia winning the Warmambool Conquest Pools Maiden Hurdle and placing in a number of others before winning the Ballarat Grand National Steeplechase in August 2024. He’s won over $750,000 NZD in prizemoney – what a champ!
Zacada
Zacada was our winner of the Rotorua Cup in 2019 (the race wasn’t run in 2020) and whilst he had several more starts, including a stint in Aus, he was retired in 2020. Prior to the Rotorua Cup he’d achieved glory running a narrow 2nd in the Group 1 ATC Sydney Cup behind the legendary Who Shot Thebarman and winning the Group 2 Avondale Cup, achieving career earnings of over $700,000!
